Seminar

The Club held it's first Novice Judges Seminar on 10th September 2005 at Newmarket Sports Centre.

The day was very successful with those taking part as students and observers gaining a lot of useful information and experience.

The Club's Chairman Mr Keith Wallington opened the Seminar introducing the guest speakers and a run through the days events.

This was followed by a Breed Presentation by Mrs Rosemary Hewitt, which covered all aspects of our breed, from the origins of the Labrador Retriever through to a detailed look at the Breed Standard. Everyone found the presentation extremely useful and helpful, especially as they received handouts with detailed diagrams and examples clearly demonstrating each point of the Breed Standard.

After refreshments it was then the turn of our second guest speaker, Mr Frank Whitbread. The first presentation was an introduction to judging and ring procedure. This was a detailed look at what judges can expect from the initial signing of contracts through to how judges themselves are expected to act on the day of the show.  The second presentation was on Critique Writing. This was very useful as it guided students through the correct way to go about writing a Critique, with examples of what to do and more importantly what not to do.

Just before lunch, Rosemary demonstrated, on a live model, the correct way to approach and go over a dog.

After lunch the Students were then split into groups of three for some practical Judging.  Each student was given the opportunity to go over a dog and discuss the virtues and failings of the dog with a Championship Show Judge.

After refreshments, there was an opportunity to ask all the Championship Show Judges present questions.

Many thanks to our guest speakers, Mrs Rosemary Hewitt and Mr Frank Whitbread, also thanks to the Championship show judges, the dogs and handlers and all the helpers that helped to  make this a very successful day.
